The Suitcase

A suitcase was left outside the library today,

right outside the front doors.

It looked just like a regular case,

like something you might fill with clothes.

But then someone said it looked out of place

and someone else said it looked ‘suspicious.’

As the minutes ticked on, its shape began to change

and it started to look more menacing.

The police came

and said people were right to be scared,

validating the panic with shiny badges and nods.

Then someone went up close to take another look,

The zip! the zipper is undone!

They all peered inside to see the lining,

flowers with a hint of paisley

and everyone walked away. 

Because it was just a regular case with a broken zip,

that used to have a home.
